Born to serve:  Julius Maada Wonie Bio was born in 1964 into a ruling house in Sogbini Chiefdom in the Bonthe District with high expectations.  Mild mannered and soft spoken, yet he is humility personified.

Leadership at early age:  Bio was school prefect in Bo School and served his school, family and friends well.

Gallant soldier: Enlisted in the Military, he defended his country with distinction against rebel incursion.  Lost many relatives and friends.  Rose to the rank of Brigadier-General.

Service to West Africa: Served in ECOWAS Peacekeeping Force (ECOMOG) in Liberia and protected both Liberia and Sierra Leone against rebel onslaught and carnage.

Terminator of one-party rule:  A member of NPRC that ended APC dictatorship and one-party rule through a popular and internationally recognized coup d’ etat in 1992.

Public servant: Served as minister of information, Deputy Chairman and Chairman of NPRC and Head of State.

Peacemaker: Bio initiated the transformation from war to peace with the Abidjan Peace Accord 1996, the precursor to the Lome Peace Accord.

Restorer of democracy in Sierra Leone:  At a time military leaders in other parts of West Africa were succeeding themselves as president, Bio, as head of state, voluntarily relinquished power and restored democratic governance in Sierra Leone through elections after 14 years of dictatorship and one-party rule.  He achieved this in very trying conditions of war and earned kudos from the international community.  The national electoral commission declared the SLPP the winner.

Believer in One Country One People: Bio believes in this sacred creed of the SLPP (One Country One People), and this is why his leadership is accepted by all ethnic groups, young and old, men and women throughout the length and breadth of Sierra Leone.

Education: Bio holds both Bachelor and Masters Degrees from the School of International Service at the American University in Washington DC, U.S.A.

Family man: Bio is married to Frances Bio and they are blessed with four children and one grandchild.

A Winner:  Bio has all the qualities required— youth, coolness, charisma, vibrancy, education, experience and hindsight— to wrestle the presidency from the APC in 2012.
